Nurse

East Bernard ISD employs a school nurse to provide healthcare to students and staff, promote a healthy school environment and manage school health policies and programs. EBISD's nurse is located in the Junior High campus but serves the entire district.

Food Allergy Management Plan

  •     Parent/guardian must notify the school nurse of student’s specific food allergy.

  •     Parent/guardian should complete Request for Food Allergy Information Form.

  •     If medication is prescribed, a Medication Request Permission Form must be filled out.

  •     Special accommodations may be provided upon recommendation of a core team consisting of parent/guardian, teacher, school nurse and school administrator after receiving documentation from a physician regarding the allergy.

Immunization Information

State law requires children to be immunized against certain vaccine-preventable diseases to attend school in Texas. Getting your child vaccinated protects your child's health and that of the community. Students cannot go to school without the appropriate documentation for the required vaccines or a valid medical or conscientious exemption.

Required Screenings

Vision, Hearing, and Spinal Screening

The Texas Department of State Health Services Vision, Hearing and Spinal Screening requirements mandate that all children must be screened or have a professional examination for possible vision, hearing  and spinal curvature problems.

The Vision and Hearing requirements apply each year for children enrolled in any licensed child-care center and licensed child care home or school program at the ages or grades listed below:

  • Children who turn 4-years-old by September 1, Kindergartners or any other first-time entrants (4 years through 12th grade) - screening must be done within 120 days of admission

  • 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th graders - screening must be done anytime within the school year (preferably within 120 days)

The requirements for Spinal Screening apply each year for all children who attend public and private schools, to detect abnormal spinal curvature in accordance with the following schedule:

  • Girls (two times) - screening must be done at age 10 (or fall semester of grade 5) and age 12 (or fall semester of grade 7)

  • Boys (one time) - age 13 or 14 (or fall semester of grade 8)

Disease Prevention & Mitigation

Your children are our highest priority and their health, safety and welfare is of top concern. By working together, we can educate and build awareness regarding illness in our community, enforce good hygiene, monitor wellness and follow guidelines and protocols to ensure the best possible learning environment for students and the health of the whole community.

East Bernard ISD and staff members work together to be successful. If a child becomes ill while at school, faculty and staff do their best to isolate him or her and contact parents promptly to pick up their student. 

East Bernard ISD routinely teach and reinforce the following:

  • Proper had washing (soap and water for 20 seconds and hand sanitizer in between)

  • Washing hands after certain activities, including bathroom breaks, after recess and before lunch

  • Cough and sneeze etiquette (cough into the upper sleeve or use a tissue and dispose of it properly)

  • Keeping hands away from eyes, nose and mouth

  • Staying home if sick

Hand sanitizer stations are available in every classroom. In addition, the East Bernard ISD Custodial Department follows strict guidelines and uses hospital-grade products to clean and disinfect school buildings daily.
